Clean Water Access Through Nanotechnology
Assignment 5
This is the video project I worked on with four of my peers at the end of the ENG2003 course. Throughout our tutorials for the duration of the term, I worked with these students on a variety of different exercises and activities, and this project is in many ways a culmination of those efforts; learning together, communicating with each other more effectively, and honing in on what’s important and needs to be expressed on a public platform. In a span of less than two weeks, we chose one of our special interest topics, analyzed the related technical report, created a PowerPoint presentation, wrote scripts, recorded videos, edited them together and published the presentation on YouTube. I ended up reformatting the entire slideshow, as well as editing the project components together in Adobe Premiere Pro. To complete this project, I had to learn some new technical skills in that software, as well as other soft skills in helping to organize group meetings, coordinate group communication on Discord, and take on the responsibility of ensuring everyone uploaded their video contributions so that I could compile them for the final presentation. The video itself is a testament to communication skills as well, through the on-screen writing and visual cues as well as the audio. It demonstrates my ability to captivate an audience by speaking clearly, remaining focused and keeping the axioms of communication in mind. Compared to the other projects, this one definitely pushed me out of my comfort zone, as I find public speaking challenging, and leading a team can be a lot of work, but in the end I am very proud of the piece we produced and our ability to continually edit to reach our desired goals. There are several things that could be improved on (though I won’t point them out, as we haven’t been graded yet!), but despite this I think the presentation reflects on my group well and was a good learning experience.
